"Home" by Benny Fredman, "The Vanishing Soldier" by Danny Rosenberg, "The Mistress" by Maayan Rif, "Running on the Sand" by Adar Shafran and "Seven Blessings" by Ayelet Menachemi are the nominees for the Ophir Award for Best Israeli Film for 2023.
Ayelet Menachemi's "Seven Blessings" ("Nodel") receives no less than 12 nominations, followed by Danny Rosenberg's "The Vanishing Soldier" and Avi Nesher's "Monkey Garden" – which is not nominated for the film award but does for directing – with 11 nominations. The other three films competing for the grand prize — "Home," "The Mistress" and "Running on the Sand" — are debuts. The annual awards ceremony of the Israel Academy of Film and Television will be held in two months, on September 10, and the winner will be the Israeli nominee for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

On the acting front, Dana Ivgy may become the most decorated actress in the history of the ceremony if she wins the award for the fourth time for the lead role in "The Mistress," but to do so, she will have to beat Raymond Amsalem, who is nominated for the same award for two different films - "Seven Blessings" and "The Future." Another actor with double or even triple nominations is Dror Keren, who is nominated as a lead actor for Roni Niño's "Farewell Tour," and as a supporting actor and screenwriter for "Home." Sasson Gabay, who became the Academy record holder for actor last year, could widen the gap this year if he wins the lead role in "My Beloved Daughter."
While the nominees for the feature film award are not very well known to the Israeli public, the documentary prize is full of relatively well-known nominees on popular topics: among others, it will star "1341 frames from Micha Bar-Am's camera", "If it ends it's a shame - Inbal Perlmutter" and "Poliker - the child in me" that starred in the latest editions of DocAviv, as well as "Zsa Tam Ronit Elkabetz" and "The Bankers' Trial". All of them have already been broadcast on television.
